Message from Conference Organizing Committee Chair

I warmly welcome you to the AFROHUN 4th International One Health Conference in Nairobi Kenya. With a record number of participants expected for this conference, we are delighted to receive all of you and provide the necessary space for networking, collaborative learning, strategizing, and charting a way forward for critical Global Health Security in Africa.

I am particularly excited about the interactive design of the conference and the many sessions that will provide opportunities for conference delegates to share knowledge and make new connections. We are looking forward to hosting scholars, policymakers and implementers, philanthropists, practitioners, researchers, funders, students, and many others. We cannot wait to welcome you to Nairobi City.

The theme for the AFROHUN 4th International One Health Conference is

“The Role of Regional One Health University Networks in Advancing Global Health Security: Developing Workforces and Fighting Antimicrobial Resistance in the Era of Climate Change”.

One Health University Networks like Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN) are key actors in building capacity for Global Health Security. Key issues that are presenting new challenges in Global Health Security are climate Change and Antimicrobial resistance. Holding conversations on these two critical global issues in Africa is timely given the continent’s vulnerability as a hub of deadly pathogens and disease outbreaks that are trans-boundary and endemic in nature, alongside a surging population. How can One Health University Networks position to provide leadership for building the next-generation workforce?

We sincerely appreciate our member institutions and our partners in the USA with whom we implement different projects, for the dedication and support rendered to the processes that enable us to generate knowledge that we are bringing into this conference. Our funders include USAID, which has funded us for 10 years, IDRC, and GIZ (which is supporting our knowledge management efforts as well as co-funding this conference). To these, we are sincerely grateful. We do not take this support for granted. We thank you very much for believing in us and taking a risk on us. We are proud to have reached this point in our journey with you.

Several committees have been working tirelessly to make this conference a memorable experience for all of us. I do sincerely thank the committee members for the work done; the innovation, creativity, and personal sacrifices made to deliver on this front.

I do thank all those who have agreed to be speakers, chair sessions, and volunteer in one way or another and to all of you delegates in your various categories. Thank you very much. Asante Sana!! Welcome to Kenya, welcome to Nairobi. Karibuni Kenya, Karibuni Nairobi!

I wish you all a rewarding experience!
